Makeup Fix Lashes

As most of you know, lashes are my latest obsession.  I asked hubby recently if he liked me with or without lashes.  I was a little shocked when he said “with”.  I thought he’d say “it doesn’t matter, I like both” or some P.C. answer like that.  So with that, I’m all in!

This is a totally non-glam pictionary of the lashes.  It’s all about the lashes, right? I’m not too vain to go completely naked in the face to show off some lashes.

I ordered lashes from Makeup Fix at the beginning of the year when they had an EPIC sale. They were selling lashes for ONE DOLLAR.  Yes, I said it, a dollar.  Shipping was $5 so it was totally worth it.  I had never heard of the company but for a dollar, what did I have to loose?

The first lash is Twig.  This is a VERY faint lash.  Truly for the beginner or person that doesn’t like any drama in their lashes.  If you want the most natural looking lash, this is it.

Next is Simplicity.  I like this one because it’s wispy. It’s still natural looking but with a little something extra.

Here is Plenty.  She is bringing some drama to the party. Plenty of thickness and and plenty of length is what you get with this lash.

Finally we have Bliss.  This is va-va-va-voom for sure. This lash is NOT for the faint of heart.  You had better BRING IT when wearing these babies.

They have different varieties of lashes to choose from that range from tame to Diva.

I like trying out brands that I have not heard of because you never know what gems you will find.  Their lashes regularly cost $10 a pair and they have a huge celebrity following as you can see on their website. I like the variety this company has and the lashes were very comfortable and did not have to be bent by hand before applying.

Tarte Mascaras

Well I finally bit the bullet and decided to spend quite a few coins on some mascara.  For those of you following my blog and following my Instagram and Twitter (@pjacksone), you know I have been on a falsies kick since the beginning of the year.  Hubby likes the false lashes so I have been rocking them steadily just about every day.  I admit there have been some times where I have not removed them carefully and that has probably led to me loosing some natural lashes.  I also went through a period where I was lazy and didn’t apply mascara first and then apply the lashes. This also led to glue getting on my natural lashes resulting in lash loss when trying to pull the glue off my lash.

I was recently introduced to the Tarte Brand because their products are eco-friendly and cruelty free.  I watched countless YouTube videos on how their mascaras are just the best thing since sliced bread.  Their Instagram page was ablaze with everyone going crazy and posting fabulous pics.

There was one mascara that everyone talked about more than the rest and it’s called “Lights, Camera, Lashes 4-in-1” mascara.  This is a lengthening, curling, volumizing and conditioning mascara that is infused with olive esters to condition, treat and protect lashes. Now that’s a mouthful.

Just when I thought the hype couldn’t get any more crazy . . . they came out with a new mascara called “Tartiest Lash Paint”.  This mascara is supposed to increase lash volume by 2700% (no that was not a typo – almost 3 thousand percent increase).  I just happened to hear about it the week it came out so I said, “why not, let’s get it!”

Now let’s get to the pricing.  This was NOT a cheap venture on my part. “Lights, Camera, Lashes 4-in-1” mascara was $21 and the “Tartiest Lash Paint” mascara was  $23.  I got a sample of the Deep Dive Cleansing Gel as a free gift (I was able to choose from 3 items offered). So spending almost $50 in mascara had me setting the bar super high for results.

Here are my lashes with nothing on them.  Get out the magnifying glass people because you’re gonna need it:

Now here is the results from the “Lights, Camera, Lashes 4-in-1” mascara:

Now here is the results from  the “Tartiest Lash Paint” mascara:

So for me, the results are not astounding.  This is why I mentioned the state of my lashes with them not being the thickest/longest to begin with and with me removing my falsies roughly.

Will I have better luck over time with the mascaras by removing my lashes more carefully? We will see.  I will use this as a base with my lashes before applying the falsies.  I have seen people using this in real time on Periscope and saw their lashes transform before my eyes.  Some people have said they will use this in place of falsies.

It’s an expensive undertaking but we are women.  We work hard and we deserve to splurge on ourselves sometimes.  This was definitely a splurge for me because I have always bought drugstore mascara.  I decided to join the big leagues and invest in some really good mascara. If you are looking for a more eco-friendly, clean and vegan-friendly mascara, treat yourself.  Here is the link showing their vegan friendly products:

There are a lot of divas that go by one name: Cher, Britney, Mariah, Beyonce – now we have Mushiya.  For those of you unfamiliar, she is the vivacious, outspoken, and larger than life member of WE TV’s hit series, “Cuttin It In The ATL”.  The show is about female hairstylists/salon owners that are at the top of their game in Atlanta, GA.

Mushiya owns a high fashion natural hair salon called The Damn Salon. This is not just a hair salon, it’s movement with a cult following.  She also has salons in Houston, Washington, Montreal, Charlotte, and DC, as well as the Atlanta location.

Mushiya also has a line of hair called Runway Curls:  This hair is Ethiopian textured 100% virgin hair extensions.  For those that are on a budget, she produced the Faux Curls collection so you can get the same look and save a coin or two.

Needless to say, she is quite the saavy business woman but her passion doesn’t end with hair.  Mushiya loves to sing and decided to bring her music to the masses.  She had a listening party last weekend that will air on this seasons’ “Cuttin It In The ATL” show.

I had the privilege to attend. I also met one of her other cast-mates, Maja, the owner of the Walk-in Weaves and hair line called Pretty Hair.

It was held in a very eclectic spot called Erosol.  It’s a bar but it’s very well known for listening parties and musical performances due to the stage area on the second level.  It started late, but anything that is being taped for TV is going to take a LONG time. I must say she’s a really good singer.  The show was very high energy and electric it was well worth the wait.  You would think that this was her full time gig instead of hair. She made a grand entrance singing as she took the stage.

Her show gave you a little bit of everything: singing, models (wearing her hair, of course), male dancers (yum!) and LIVE music.

Did you hear me say LIVE MUSIC?  She had a full band.  She had everyone on their feet dancing and singing.  Go to my Instagram page to see the videos: @pjacksone

Dax Tailor opened for her.  He is a great singer – look out for his single with Kendrick Lamar dropping soon.

I had a great time and look forward to hearing more from Mushiya on TV as well as on the radio.  She is a business woman that is constantly evolving and growing her empire.
